It's the anniversary of the Russian Revolution, marking the Marxist overthrow of the Russian government. Karl Marx once wrote that "religion is the opium of the people." What is the new opium of the people?

The CORRECT quote is "opiate of the masses."
I think this still rings true.

Let's see... I have one desktop and one laptop. The desktop is on my desk. My laptop is on my lap, floor, kitchen table, in front of the TV, etc... In other words, my laptop goes where I go while my desktop probably feels left out. Poor thing!

back in the running again!

After weeks of therapy and hours on the treadmill, I'm finally was able to start running around the good old track last week. I never missed a track so much in my life! Before my car accident, the track had begun to bore me. Now it's an enjoyable change of pace compared to the gym.

That said, my gym time left me with a new appreciation of the what I can accomplish there! I'm still going regularly so that I don't put to much strain on my lower back. I use the eliptical or the treadmill. It's great for fat burning and setting a strong pace.

Wish me luck on my training!

Treadmill

Over the past few weeks I've been increasing both the frequency and intensity of my work-outs. At first, I added weight training twice each week. The additional stress on my lower back was painful but I powered through it with the help of frequent chiropractor visits, ultrasound treatments and ice packs at night. The following week i ran once on a treadmill,  maintaining a 12-minute mile for 48 minutes. The week after that, I ran 3-times but did not incorporate weights. Now this weekend I've run once (again on a treadmill but now at 11:30-minute mile) and include 45-minutes of weight training.

For the rest of the week, I'd like to run and weight train two more times each as well as include a yoga session. Of course, with the July 4th holiday, I'll also have to be careful not to over indulge in food.

What foods do you associate with romance or attraction?

Those would be foods I cannot eat when I'm in training! Chocolate and wine are good in moderation but that's hard to do when you are sharing a bottle of wine and box of chocolate :)

Desserts do have a romantic feel to me. It's a luxurious feeling to order dessert in a restaurant. Taramisu, chocolate lava cake, a berry tart ,and port are all are romantic and forbidden during training. Boo!

My doctor said I could ease back into training! This weekend I did yoga and enough housework to work up a sweat. Tonight... running!

I haven't been able to run this past week. I was in a car accident a week ago and the whiplash is keeping me off the road -- doctor's orders. The whiplash is so bad that it has even effected the way I speak. At first, I just sounded like Rachael Ray. By day two I had full laryngitis. As of day seven, I still sound husky. The worst part is that I'm not allowed to even stretch or left weights for at least one week. Then it's time to re-evaluate. At least I can read about running.
